SAINT MARK'S PRO-CATHEDRAL
Hastings, Nebraska |
Saint Mark’s Arts Festival is made possible by the Elinor Bartholomew Memorial Trust established to celebrate Elinor’s life and her ministry at Saint Mark’s. For Elinor, art was a self-taught avocation which she first undertook at the age of forty. She painted oils and watercolors for pleasure, and she especially enjoyed doing seascapes and still-lifes. Elinor made many paintings for family and friends, and she also sold a number of her paintings. Elinor often said, “You are never too old or too young to take up painting.” Lisa Prickett has taught art at the elementary and secondary levels in Fairfield, NE in Hastings Catholic Schools and currently in the Hastings Public Schools. Her own work is primarily in watercolor and mixed media, but her greatest contribution to the art world is through instilling a love of the visual arts while developing a sense of personal worth in her students as creative, valued individuals. Jerome Dubas is an accomplished artist and teacher who shares a love of art and creative expression with everyone he meets. He began his teaching career in Fairfield, NE, currently works in the Grand Island Public Schools and also serves as an adjunct professor of art at Hastings College. He maintains his own studio and exhibits in various galleries. His artistic creations are created primarily in clay and paint, using the interplay of working in two different media to allow him to explore his subjects in a multi-dimensional way. What began for Jerome as a playful pastime of sitting in an eroded pasture playing with bright red clay has evolved into a relationship between the clay and his life and spirit. He allows his students and those who view his art to share in that connection and to consider themes that are part of our own universal experience.
