O Lord, before whose throne trumpets sound, and saints and angels sing the songs of Moses and the Lamb: Accept this organ for the worship of your temple, that with the voice of music we may proclaim your praise and tell it abroad; in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Almighty God, to whose glory we celebrate the dedication of this instrument of praise: We give you thanks for the fellowship of those who have worshipped in this place, and we pray that all who seek you here may find you, and be filled with your joy and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Blessing and Dismissal

Please join us for a reception in the Beecher Library following our worship to greet
our organist, Alan Strong, Saint Mark’s Principal Organist 1980-1989
and our other wonderful musicians

Longtime members or returning alumni may remember Alan Strong as the organist for Saint Mark’s Pro-Cathedral in the 1980s. While living in Hastings, Dr. Strong taught elementary music in the Hastings Public Schools as well as serving as organist for Saint Mark’s. He holds the Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and completed both the Master’s and Doctoral degrees in music education at Indiana University, including organ study with Robert Rayfield.

Alan left Hastings in 1989 to take a position at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, teaching undergraduate and graduate music education, with a focus on teaching the Kodály Concept of music education. While there, he also taught private organ lessons and performed as organist or keyboard player for a variety of university choral and instrumental performances. In 1996, Dr Strong performed as the organ soloist for performances of Poulenc’s Organ Concerto in Huntsville, Houston, and the Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio.

In 2000, he left his teaching position at Sam Houston State to pursue architectural study at Texas A&M University and recently completed the Master of Architecture degree. While pursuing his new career in the field of architecture, Dr. Strong plans to remain active as a church organist. For the past twelve years he has served as the Organist/Choirmaster for Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Bryan, Texas, serving as organist for two services each Sunday and directing the parish choir.
