Cathedral Banners

Processional Banner
This banner is carried in processions at public worship

Canterbury
Represents the Church of England, our mother church. The banner bears the insignia of the Archbishop of Canterbury - the pallium,
a vestment worn by early bishops. The Archbishop is the primate of the Church of England and titular leader of the Anglican
branch of the historic Catholic Church.
Anglican Communion
Compass points in all directions signify the world mission of our international church.
Episcopal Church
Bears the familiar insignia of our national church. The nine Saint Andrew crosses represent the nine original dioceses
of the American Church - the Scottish cross was adopted because it was the Church of Scotland that consecrated the first
American Episcopal bishop.
Diocese of Nebraska
Represents our diocesan church. The insignia carries the bishop's mitre above the cross and below the cross, the key
and the crosier - traditional symbols of the apostolic office.
Missionary District of Western Nebraska
Represents our former jurisdiction of which Hastings was the see city. The Diocese of Western Nebraska merged in 1946
with the eastern diocese of the state, with the understanding that Saint Mark's would continue as a designated cathedral.
Symbols for Western Nebraska were the Indian, the shock of wheat, and the cross.
Saint Mark's Pro-Cathedral
Represents our parish church. The winged lion is the traditional symbol of our patron, blessed Saint Mark. Below the
lion is the outline of our cathedral building.
